rumour has it that
he draws his impression of everyone who does so. If your drawing

19th April 1998
White walls, ceiling tiles, wiry blue-grey carpet tiles. Two-tone
brown melamine furniture desk, filing cabinet. Black, speckled black,
scratchy swivel chair. White, long-sleeved t-shirt, charcoal grey, wide-shouldered,
pin-striped suit with slightly too baggy trousers. Sharp shoes that he
digs into the carpet tiles nervously as the call connects. Another late
night at the office, nervous yes, guilty no. He rests his weight on the
corner of the desk, it tips slightly and his carefully arranged pencils
roll onto the floor and blend in to the carpet.
“Yes, I’m on my way home.”
In the car he takes 9 items with him:
1. The cash from his wallet - £27.01
2. A pack of two ruled spiral bound notebooks
3. 3 new biros - blue, with lids - bundled together with a blue elastic
band
4. His gym kit, comprising blue tracksuit bottoms, a white collared
t-shirt, blue zip-up top, a towel, white sport socks and white running
trainers. Only the trainers have been worn before.
5. A roll of sticky tape
6. His pocket address book, with his initials embossed in gold on
the cover - MJF
7. A tube of multi-vitamin tablets - orange flavoured
8. His spare toothbrush, which he kept in his briefcase
9. A newspaper, not one he would usually read, but the only one he
could find.
